Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Who is LOCO?

The LOCO Sports company is owned by a core group of runners in who wanted to make the best performance-based products on the market for runners. LOCO: core runners, triathletes, running club members and competitors—just like you. LOCO is not a venture-backed firm, nor is it publicly traded. When you talk to us at LOCO about your running and your shoes, chances are you are talking to one of the owners.

What do you mean by LOCO?

As runners we have all been accused of being crazy at one point or another, whether it's running in searing heat, driving rain or blowing snow. Just like you we've gotten up at the crack of dawn to sneak in a run, to train for a marathon, a 5K or whatever. What about those cold and rainy 10K's before Thanksgiving dinner? We could go on and on but you know what we mean. When it comes to running we're more than a little bit crazy, we're LOCO!

What's with the name?

Almost everyone knows the word "loco" mean crazy, literally to be crazy about something, an enthusiast, a fan. We choose it to mean crazy about motion, y'know—locomotion! Fitting don't you think? Actually, founder & CEO Mike's son was taking high school Spanish while we were pulling the (yet unnamed) company together and he got tired of hearing Dad yak about it. He proclaimed at the dinner table one night, "you guys are loco" and the name stuck! True story.

What is the history of LOCO?

LOCO was conceived in 2002 and we developed and tested our shoes for the next 18 months. We incorporated as LOCO Sports, Inc. in early 2004. We "officially" launched our shoe line at the Boston Marathon in April 2004 and the rest, as they say, is history.

LOCO Sports' home office is located in Newmarket, New Hampshire, a great seacoast town with a strong running history.

Who designs your shoes?

Our shoe models are designed by runners who are experienced in every facet of running shoe development and production. Our design features come from recommendations by you, the runner—our customers. Our founders have over 35 years in running shoe development for the industry's largest and best-known athletic shoes companies. A few of the models developed by the founders in the past include:

  • Nike Pegasus
  • Saucony Shadow
  • New Balance 565 and 995
  • and dozens of others.

Where are your shoes made?

Our shoes are made in factories that have extensive experience in manufacturing performance-running footwear. These factories make production shoes for some of the best know brands on the market. Our development is started here in the US, with samples and production completed by quality manufacturers in the Orient.

Of course we would like to say that we hand cobble these in our garage just for you. But we are not that loco!

Why should I buy your shoes?

The real question is—should I run in LOCO shoes? YES, but if and only if our shoes are right for you!

As runners ourselves we know that getting the right running shoe is one of the most important things in staying healthy and making your running enjoyable.

We want you to run in our shoes:

  • Only if they fit right, feel right, flex right.
  • If the technology matches your running style and is right for you.
  • If you are a runner interested in a new unique brand that promises to stay true to you the runner and the sport.

Where can I try your shoes?

LOCO is new to Canada and currently seeking to identify high quality specialty running stores. We currently attend many races, fitness expos and running club meetings where we sell direct. Of course, we also offer our shoes right here on our web site. Our generous return policy and free shipping will allow you to try direct-marketed shoes virtually risk free (retailer terms apply at shoes purchased in stores).

Why do your shoes cost less than competitors?

Why LOCO: Three reasons

  1. LOCO shoes follow a simple fit, feel and function approach - we put the essential technology in our shoes and nothing more. We refuse to add features just to make shoes look "technical".
  2. Our shoes stay in line for 5 years - keeping development and inventory cost low
  3. That's the way, uh-huh uh-huh, we like it!
Look, most running shoes made by our competitors are positioned to fit certain price points in the market and large retail stores. Their vast and ever-changing model lines clog the market with high-priced current models and bargain bucket remainders.

Our models are priced reasonably by us and reflect our view of what the running community deserves.

How well do your shoes perform?

LOCO models are made with state of the art materials using the best available production methods. We place a high emphasis on making quality shoes with the very best components—hey, we run in them too! Our extensive wear testing has proven that LOCO shoes perform just as well and last just as long as many higher priced models on the market (sometimes even longer).

Oh, you mean performance? Here's a tip to shave some seconds off your next race: try our Bandito. Seriously, we find the most effective way to improve race times is to......train hard and yes RUN FASTER!!
